The Department of Chemistry at Amar Singh College was established in 1942, the same year the institution itself was converted from a technical institute into a full-fledged college. It is one of the oldest chemistry departments in the Kashmir Valley. The department has evolved alongside the college, which is the second-oldest college in the region. The department is currently housed in ground floor the New Science Block of the college.
