Department of Psychology at Amar Singh College has been known for its focus on honing theoretical and applied psychological skills as well as engaging in value based extra-curricular activities. We aspire to become one of the leading Psychology Departments by inculcating young minds with knowledge and skills for personal, social and professional growth and development. The emphasis is made on to produce psychologists par excellence with requisite knowledge, skills, and sensitivity needed to assess and evaluate human behaviour and mind.

The Department of Psychology came into existence in 2002. Irrespective of its short history, it holds a very prestigious position in the social sciences in the Valley. In order to build firm grounding and strong learning base, students are imparted with the knowledge about theoretical foundations and its numerous branches such as Social Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapy, Statistics and Research Methodology, Organizational Behaviour, and Biopsychology. The Department has shown considerable progress in terms of academic activities and produced students who have excelled at state and national level. Many of the Department’s alumnae have made their mark in various national and international organizations. The Department today comprises of 3 dedicated faculty members from diverse domains of psychology and nearly 1000 students are currently enrolled in different semesters, who are committed to both the academic and extra-curricular activities of the department. The Department has a well-furnished laboratory comprising of two spacious and well-equipped labs (Lab I & Lab II). The labs are fully equipped with the latest test materials that enable the students to conduct new and innovative experiments for assessment of human behaviour and mental processes. Department also has a small separate counselling service centre in the name of “Sukoon†which caters the needs of the campus students as well as faculty members of the college. Apart from this, department publishes a newsletter named “Psycheâ€.
