About Us

The Department of Botany was established in 1981 and has made significant progress in academics since then. The Department maintains a botanical garden which has a rich diversity of wild, economically and medicinally important plants. The Department has recently established a herbal garden in which many medicinal and aromatic plants are being cultivated. The aim of the Department is to give the learners a sound understanding of Biosciences with emphasis on understanding the general aspects of plants and their importance. Further the Department aims to provide the platform for students to achieve excellence in academics. The programme offered by the Department provides an opportunity to learners for higher studies not only in Botany but also in other branches like bioresources, biotechnology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, environmental science, phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, genetics, ecology etc. Besides, the teaching-learning provided by the Department helps students to qualify competitive exams like NET, KAS and IAS. The programme includes themes in some of the emerging areas of Botany that are expected to be extremely useful in the present scenario.
