The Post Graduate Department of Geography in Amar Singh College campus was established in 2005 and till date is the only PG Department of Geography in the college. The Department of Geography was initially started at SP College in 1941 and then it was shifted to Amar Singh College in 1946 along with men (Human resource) and material (Lab equipment). Amar Singh College was the only college in valley where geography was offered at graduation level as one of the core subjects. The Department of Geography was headed by A.N. Raina (1946-66), the first indigenous Ph.D. in Geography. The permission to start PG was given to this department in due recognition of higher academic standards set by the department.
