The department of Islamic Studies was established in the year 1993. The department functioned with a contractual lecturer utpto 1995-96. The permanent post was filled in the year 1997. The first Assistant Professor was miss Subeena Chiloo, who worked hard for the Upliftment of the discipline. The main objective of the department is to impart the teachings and Knowledge of Islam/Muslim culture in a modern perspective.
